Residents tee off at Seachange Masters Golf Championship

Residents enjoyed a fun, social day out on the green at the second annual Seachange Masters Golf Championship. 

We had a fantastic turn out for the day, with 10 teams of four people participating in the Ambrose style competition at the Arundel Hills Golf Club on June 1. 

The rules were simple: all players teed off, the best shot was selected and all players had to hit again from that same spot. The best second shot was then selected, with all players hitting from that same spot. This continued until the ball was holed. 

All teams were selected by handicaps for a fair competition. 

At the end of the day, the winning team – the ‘awesome foresome’ comprising of Jenny Parmenter, Judy Smith, Steve Fowler and Phil Goodman – was awarded a perpetual trophy.

Winning team member Jenny said it was a great social day of golf. 

“Obviously winners are grinners, but everyone had fun as well,” she said. 

“We all played very well as a team that day but on the last shot Judy chipped off the green and it just kept going and going and then it went in. It was quite a long putt! I would love to participate again even if I’m not on a winning team.”

The team thanked Seachange Management for its sponsorship of the annual event.

A crafty state of mind

The creativity and talent of our residents at Seachange Arundel was on display for all to see at our popular annual Seachange Art and Craft Exhibition. 

It was thrilling to see the exhibition back bigger and better than ever, with more than 300 arts and crafts lovers turning up to the event at our five-star country club.

“This is one of our major and most popular events at Seachange and this year’s event was no exception,” says Seachange Social Club Coordinator Brian Dawson.

“Residents were able to produce art and craft work of an exceptional standard as they were able to utilise the club’s art room, sewing room and workshop. 

 “It’s been an exciting opportunity for residents to develop their artistic side.”

Visitors enjoyed wine and cheese and took the opportunity to be inspired by artwork that played an integral role in the community.

Residents entered categories including acrylic open, acrylic beginners, oil open, watercolour open, watercolour beginners; pastel, drawing, charcoal, pen and ink; mixed media/abstract; portrait; quilts; knitting and crochet; hand embroidery; cards; and miscellaneous. 

The Neil Johnson Perpetual Award was awarded to Jeff Niblett for his mixed media work Lay Lines.

Raising a cup against cancer

Joining in the fight against cancer, Seachange residents raised nearly $10,000 for the Cancer Council Australia’s annual Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser. 

More than 300 people attended the fundraising lunch organised by the community’s social club at the resort’s Country Club for a morning of fun and entertainment. 

Social Club Fund Raising Co-ordinator Katrina Godbold said the campaign was close to the hearts of many of our residents who had family or friends with cancer or were battling the disease themselves. 

“Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was a wonderful opportunity for residents to join together to raise vital funds to support the fight against cancer and shine a light on the importance of cancer awareness,” she said.

We were lucky to have our hard working social club arrange for renowned singing group Duo Diva to wow the crowd. Comprising the talented Lisa Beamish and Kathleen Procter Moore, the duo performed songs from a range of genres including opera and Celtic. 

The occasion saw residents, friends and local retailers come together to donate some wonderful prizes for the event. It was another wonderful example of how Seachange residents are embracing the community spirit.

Golf Buggies Show Residents the Way to Move

Travelling by golf buggy has become an exciting way of life at Seachange Emerald Lakes, with residents using them to meet up with friends for coffee and cake or going to the golf course for a quick nine holes.

The Gold Coast’s gated country club estate for over 50s is proud to be one of the first golf buggy-friendly communities in Queensland. Recent residents who purchased a home at Seachange Emerald Lakes were given the keys to a free golf buggy and a golf club membership at the award winning Emerald Lakes Golf Club.

“Golf buggies are our preferred mode of transport at Seachange Emerald Lakes,” said Resident David Sylow. “We enjoy the convenient and low cost mode of transport to surrounding restaurants, shops and amenities.”
David said the golf buggies were a fun, social way to get some fresh air and met up with friends and neighbours.

The inaugural residents recently took a leisurely drive from their new homes to the Emerald Lakes Golf Club in a convoy of golf buggies. Emerald Lakes Golf Club Director of Golf Gavin Sconce welcomed residents and presented them with their associate club memberships.

“We have watched Seachange from the beginning and we are very excited to be welcoming the first residents to the club.” Phil Goodman, Seachange Project Director said the golf buggies fit in with Seachange’s vision to invigorate the mind, body and soul of its residents.

Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 2: Just a Stone’s Throw Away from Seachange Arundel

Our residents at Seachange Arundel already know they are living in the best retirement village on the Gold Coast. Soon, they are going to have it even better. Recently, the Queensland Government announced tentative plans for the Gold Coast Light Rail, Stage 2. For Seachange Arundel residents, the big news is that the Light Rail will make a stop at the end of Napper Road, which will be less than 1km away from Seachange Arundel.

For our residents, this is great news, because the station will be within walking distance for most of our active adult community at Seachange Arundel. Stage 2 will take residents to the Gold Coast Hospital, the Southport Business District and the Westfield and Pacific Fair shopping areas. If that was all it did, it would be great. But there’s more…

Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 2 will connect residents with the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 1. Stage 1 runs from the Gold Coast University Hospital to Broadbeach South Station. That means that less than 1km from your door, you will have access to the best of the Gold Coast.

The stops from South to North: Broadbeach South, Broadbeach North, Florida Gardens, Northcliffe, Surfers Paradise, Cavill Avenue, Cypress Avenue, Surfers Paradise North, Main Beach, Broadwater Parklands, Southport South, Southport, Nerang Street, Queen Street, Griffith University and Gold Coast University Hospital.

We are happy to hear about the new railway, which is in the works. Though it is officially on “proposed” status, it is Stage 2 of a plan to provide a state of the art transportation infrastructure in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Why the New Rail is Important to Seachange Arundel

When we created Seachange Arundel, we wanted to create a retirement village that was a world class over 50s lifestyle resort on the Gold Coast, but make it affordable enough so that people could spend the rest of their lives here.
