Professor Beer cited research estimating that more than one out of five older Australians could be classified as “socially isolated.” This can cause effects such as depression, insomnia and a higher rate of health problems such as high blood pressure and other conditions that seem to beset seniors.

Our lifestyle resort, Seachange Emerald Lakes, is built on the principles of nourish your mind, body and soul. In July 2013, the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing released a document on their website called “Recommendations on physical activity for health for older Australians.” It was based on the “National Physical Activity Guidelines for Adults” by the same organisation. Here is a summary of the Government’s general recommendations.
- No matter how old you are, you should think of movement as an opportunity instead of seeing it as an inconvenience.

- Add some vigorous activity into the mix a couple of times a week.
