Emerald Lakes

9 Benefits of an Active Lifestyle

15 June 2015 by Shane Cresser

At Seachange Emerald Lakes, we feel that we are providing one of the best active adult retirement resorts in the world. We have a world class, 5-Star country club and facilities that promote an active, social lifestyle. In addition, we are less than twenty minutes away from every imaginable activity, from golf to the beaches.

Our core principles are friendship, fun and fitness. Not only is Seachange Emerald Lakes a great place to live, the lifestyle we enable for our residents carries a host of health benefits. Even those who just choose to walk the surrounding 13km of walking paths are going to be healthier and happier.

Here are nine benefits of having an active lifestyle. While we offer numerous opportunities for more strenuous exercise, all of these benefits can be gained by simply walking for thirty minutes a day.

Stronger Heart

Exercise lowers your risk of stroke and heart disease. It makes your “bad cholesterol” or LDL levels lower while raising your “good cholesterol” or HDL. It also lowers your blood pressure. Walking for 30 minutes a day can lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of strokes by as much as 27%.

Lower Risk of Disease

Those who exercise are statistically less likely to sustain asthma, diabetes and many forms of cancer. According to the British Medical Journal and the charity “Walking for Health,” walking can lower the risk of diabetes by as much as 60%.

Less Weight Gain

Exercise burns calories, increases metabolism and improves muscle tone. To have stable body weight, it is important to burn at least as many calories as you eat each day. Burning 600 more calories than you eat each day will result in noticeable weight loss.

Helps Prevent Dementia

Anecdotal and observational studies indicate that those who exercise can be up to 40% less likely to have dementia. Those who are active usually score better on brain function tests. According to Age UK, exercise may prevent brain shrinkage, which may be a very important factor in keeping one’s memories intact.

Helps Prevent Osteoporosis

Weight bearing exercise helps prevent osteoporosis by helping the bones retain minerals such as calcium. This is an application of “Wolff’s Law,” which states that bone adapts to the loads placed on it. More exercise produces stronger bones.

Body Toning

Exercise tones your body. This not only feels healthy but looks much better, too. A toned body is also at less risk of injury from falls or accidents.

Boosts Vitamin D Levels

Appropriate Vitamin D levels are crucial for health. Any outdoor exercise boosts your Vitamin D levels because you are in the sun. While we recommend sunblock, we also recommend getting outdoors for at least a half hour a day.

More Energy

Sayings such as “use it or lose it” or “you get what you give” have been proven to apply to your energy level. The more you exercise, the more energy you have. Having more energy makes you feel more alive from the minute you awake in the morning until you go to bed at night.

Mood Elevator

Exercise makes us happier. Exercise can increase levels of endorphins and serotonin. Many psychologists and doctors believe that exercise is one of nature’s best antidepressants. We concur. A charity called “Mind” did a survey in which 83% of the respondents said they use exercise to help elevate their mood.

Wheels in Motion

Wind blowing in their hair, zipping along streets and paths, the latest members of Seachange Emerald Lakes’s golf buggy gang test out their new rides.

The gated over 50’s community, beside Emerald Lakes golf club, is one of the first buggy friendly retirement communities in Queensland.

New residents were recently given the keys to a free buggy and golf club membership, and the novel vehicles have become a way of life.

Pradella chief executive Phil Goodman said the comfortable, clean-energy buggies had helped residents get to know each other.

“The buggy is a much more social animal,” he said. “Everyone stops and talks to you; it is much more sedate. That just doesn’t happen in a car.”

“It not only allows everyone to have an identity, they know they are from Seachange Emerald Lakes, but it also allows them to start a conversation outside the community.”

The first batch of buggies were all the same, but Mr Goodman said residents were already keen to get their hands on upgrades to personalise their vehicles.

“The biggest thing we found is people have always craved one,” he said.

“They see it as being part of this premium community, and when they are given one it;s the best thing. The response has blown me away.”

Mr Goodman said within the Seachange community, buggies could be driven on roads and paths, as well as over the bridge.

Homes and shops have buggy parking, and a planned Woolworths has incorporated buggy parking into its design.

Resident David Sylow said the golf buggies were a fun, social way to get some fresh air and meet up with friends and neighbours.

On completion Seachange Emerald Lakes will have 126 homes in a country club estate featuring an indoor pool, cinema gym and lake. The local area has 13km of walking/bike tracks, shops and restaurants.

It is five minutes drive from Nerang rail link and 10 minutes drive to beaches.

As seen in the Courier Mail 9 May 2015.

12 May 2015 by Shane Cresser

When it comes to active adult living, it doesn’t get any better than Seachange Emerald Lakes. Seachange Emerald Lakes is a perfect example of why over-50 lifestyle villages are so popular on the Gold Coast and in northern NSW.

The gated country club estate was built with the vision of providing a retirement community for those over 50 who wish to keep their body, mind and soul active. Seachange Emerald Lakes is located in the Emerald Lakes precinct. It features over 13 km of walking paths and also allows residents to use buggies to get around.

Seachange Emerald Lakes is centrally located, less than 10km from Jupiter’s Casino, Robina Town Centre, Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, Broadbeach and Nerang Railway Station.

Residents of Seachange Emerald Lakes describe it as an “over 50’s resort disguised as a retirement community.”

Safety and Security

Seachange Emerald Lakes keeps their residents secure with gated entry access. The entire community is wired with intercoms and discrete security cameras that are designed to ensure safety while preserving privacy. The intercoms work in tandem with remote control garages and telephones to keep your homes secure. In addition, on-site community managers are always on hand to keep your home safe, even if you are away.

What About Pets?

At Seachange Emerald Lakes, pets under 10kg are also welcome, but they are subject to approval. This is based on the best interests of the community. As a homeowner, you have the same rights as any homeowner would. Guests are welcome to stay as long as they like.

You’ll Love Our Buggy-Friendly Lifestyle Community in Emerald Lakes

28 April 2015 by Shane Cresser

At our over 50’s lifestyle community called Seachange Emerald Lakes, we feel that we have created the best of both worlds for those who want to retire early but have plenty of time and energy left to enjoy life. We have created a premium lifestyle community where fitness, fun and shared values assist our resident’s mind, bodies and souls.

We have made the entire community buggy-friendly, which has made it even better for our residents. When you pass someone you know in a car, you are likely to wave, but it is usually impractical to stop and say, “hi.” But when you are in a buggy and you see one of your neighbours, you will usually stop and chat a bit.

However, with the entire community accessible by buggy, the fun is just beginning when you leave your home. You can take your buggy to the adjacent award winning Emerald Lakes golf course which has lights allowing you to play golf until 9:30. Before or after you play golf, or maybe instead of playing golf, you can enjoy visiting its clubhouse facility.

What You Can Expect

The clubhouse features both a sports bar where you can watch the latest events and a restaurant with some of the best cuisine on the coast.

The nearby Emerald Lakes town centre has a plethora of cafes and restaurants , with food from Greece and India, as well as gourmet food markets and a Gloria Jean’s coffee shop.

It is like having your own, private “downtown” for your enjoyment. The Town Centre further features a medical centre, pharmacy, bottle shop, convenience store, hairdresser and even a travel agent for those times you want to go elsewhere for a while.

The best part of all: everywhere in Seachange Emerald Lakes is accessible by buggy. You don’t even have to start your car.
