Seachange residents climb to Everest Base Camp

30 May 2014 by Shane Cresser

Proving that an active adult is a healthy adult, Seachange Village Arundel residents Wanda Fowler and Karen West have completed the ultimate adventure – hiking to Mt Everest base camp.

Wanda Fowler has been a resident and yoga instructor for the past two years at Seachange, while Karen West has been a resident at Seachange for four years.

They participated in a 16-day hike in Nepal late last year. The highest altitude they reached was 5,545m at Kala Patthar – which is even higher than the Everest Base Camp (5,300m). From this vantage point all the main and many lesser peaks could be seen.

“Each day started at 6.30am and, following breakfast, we trekked for five to six hours on the ascent and eight hours on the descent,” Karen said.

“The landscape varied from forests to terraced fields, rolling pastures, rocks, snow, ice and total desolation with varied quality paths and challenging suspension bridges. You very quickly learn to give way to the yaks.”

Wanda and Karen spent 10 months training for the trek, which included gym spin classes, hiking at Binna Burra, climbing Mt Warning and walking a 30km round trip from Seachange Village Arundel to Surfers Paradise.

“We knew the trek would be hard and we thought we would be physically prepared. However the long and challenging days, combined with the thin oxygen, took much more effort than we expected,” Wanda said.

Highlights of the trek for both Wanda and Karen include the amazing views, meeting other trekkers (many of whom were aged in their 60’s), meeting the local Nepalese people, the food and most of all, the enormous sense of achievement. Visiting the renowned Tibetan Buddhist monastery at Tengboche gave them a better understanding of the Sherpa community, as well as panoramic views of the roof of the world!

A recent report conducted by Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency, Life begins at 50, found that 80 per cent of over 50’s say travel is important to them. Grant Taylor, Executive Manager of APIA said “older Aussies are an adventurous bunch. Simply turning 50, 60 or 70 doesn’t necessarily mean they are relegated to pottering in the garden or doing needlepoint. Australian’s over 50’s are keen to get out there and see the world and have a good time while doing it.”

Social Seen in the Gold Coast Bulletin

Life doesn’t stop at 50 as new five-star luxury resort aimed at an older clientele opens its doors to excited crowds.

In case you hadn’t heard, ours is an ageing population and as the baby boomers shuffle towards retirement, innovative developers are filling a need for quality housing designed for their specific needs. With that in mind Pradella Property Ventures has added another development to its Seachange brand with the launch of a new five-star over 50’s luxury lifestyle resort at Emerald Lakes. Judging by the reaction from the young at heart who attended, this is set to be a winner. Lots of facilities, close to everything and views over the lake where the Surfers Paradise International Raceway once was.

Seachange For Over 50’s

29 March 2014 by Shane Cresser

PRADELLA Property Ventures has launched a $75 million five-star property in the heart of the Gold Coast. The boutique resort community Seachange Emerald Lakes will feature 126 homes in a masterplanned, gated country estate for the over 50s.

Features will include an indoor heated pool, tennis courts, private cinema, gym, wellness centre and access to an 18-hole championship golf course and 37ha lake. It will be the second Seachange property in Pradella’s portfolio. Seachange Arundel, also on the Gold Coast, has been successful, recently recording its 200th sale.

Pradella Property Ventures managing director David Pradella said there was a gap in the market for over 50’s communities that offered high-end living accommodation with lifestyle opportunities in a central location.“Following the overwhelming buyer response to Seachange Village Arundel, we felt it was the ideal time to address the huge demand for another Gold Coast over 50’s lifestyle resort,” he said.

“The Emerald Lakes gated country club estate community will deliver a fresh new alternative for property buyers over the age of 50 looking for a quality property and an active lifestyle. “It’s positioned in the very centre of the Gold Coast and all amenities are at your doorstep.“The Emerald Lakes site is also well positioned to address the demand for a resort in a blue-ribbon location.”

Project director Phil Goodman said the resort was modelled on similar and successful lifestyle developments in Florida in the United States. “Seachange Emerald Lakes marks a new era in gated country club estates,” he said. “Lifestyle was a big focus when we designed the community – everything is designed to energise and invigorate the people who live there.”

“Residents will be surrounded by other independent, like-minded people and they can engage in a range of health and wellness activities in centralised facilities onsite. They can catch a musical performance at the country club; work out in the fully equipped gym; relax with a massage; or have a round of golf at the nearby 18-hole golf course with their new neighbours. “Moving to Seachange is not about changing where you live, but how you live.”

Seachange Lights up for Christmas

16 December 2013 by Shane Cresser

It’s the time of the year to deck the halls with boughs of holly – or in this case, strings of fairy lights!

In the true spirit of both Christmas and community, residents at Seachange Village Arundel, Queensland’s most awarded active over 50’s lifestyle resort, have lit up their village with the annual Christmas Street Lights competition.

To celebrate the month long display, Seachange opened its gates last week to over 100 invited guests to view the spectacle. Not only were the Christmas lights turned on, but the faces of guests and a number of grandchildren were also lit up with joy!

Project Director Phil Goodman said the night’s guests were extremely impressed at how safe the Village was.

Many said they would not feel safe walking their own neighbourhood streets at night, but loved the secure environment of Seachange’s gated community.” “Guests loved seeing the strong community spirit at Seachange. Our residents of like-minded people were socialising, singing carols and even dancing in the street,” Phil said.
“Residents were proud to be able to show off their community and their hard work.”

The night’s guests included many people and their families who had currently purchased at Seachange whose homes were under construction, who came to see their future community in action. The lights are a focus for the many festive season celebrations at Seachange. The three Village precincts and individual streets are holding street parties throughout the month, culminating in a community party held in the Village’s own 5-Star Country Club.

To reflect the great commitment of Seachange residents to the Lights competition, this year included more prize categories, including “Best street”, “Best Home” and “Most Artistic”.

Days before the event an unexpected hail storm caused damage to a number of the home light displays. In an example of true community spirit, onsite construction staff volunteered their free time to help residents make repairs, ensuring the show could go on!

Newport Home Redesign

10 December 2013 by Shane Cresser

The Newport home, in recognition of its popularity has been redesigned for Stages 4 and 5 of the village.

The Newport offers a balance between traditional and contemporary living with separate lounge and dining areas and large kitchen.

The new design has been developed following the recommendations of focus group discussions with existing home owners at Seachange.

The kitchen is now much larger and more functional with more drawers and cupboards, it is also plumbed for ice maker and water dispensing fridge and features Bosch European wall oven, cook top and slide out range hood.

The homes electrical layout has also been upgraded to deal with increasing demands in a digital world with more power points, two telephone and two television outlets.

The home has had a second alfresco area added to the front of the property, which enhances modern Queensland design promoting indoor-outdoor living and choices. Three bedrooms are standard in the design with all featuring built-in robes. Bathroom and ensuite feature Villeroy and Boch drop in china bowls, Grohe mixer tap and Villeroy and Boch WC’s with soft close seats. New colour choices and upgraded tiles are now also standard.

The design now features an additional six windows to maximise light, ventilation and outlook and to take advantage of the 2.7m ceilings. The garage complete with remote control panel lift door includes a storage cupboard.

Ducted air conditioning is standard and all bedrooms and living areas feature ceiling fans.
