The Benefits of Pet Ownership

20 February 2019 by Terence Moyana

At Seachange, it is our mission to provide the very best in active adult lifestyle resorts. One of the cornerstones of this is to allow our homeowners the same rights they would have in their former homes. We feel that one of the best rights is pet ownership. For the safety of our residents and for the harmony of the community we do have a few breed restrictions. However, that doesn’t stop residents from having their favourite pet to keep them company. Over the years, there has been plenty of research done on the benefits of pet ownership, especially later in life.  We understand how lovely it is to come home to a dog or a cat that is ready to shower you with affection at the end of a busy day.

Benefits of Pet Ownership

The research on pet ownership is extensive and well-documented: here are some of the highlights.

  • Pet owners are more likely to be happy than those who don’t own pets. Interacting with a dog or cat has been found to increase the “happy” neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. These make you happy and help you relax.

  • Pet owners have been found to have lower triglyceride levels, cholesterol levels and blood pressure than those who don’t own pets. In addition, heart patients with pets survive on an average of more than twice as long as those without pets.

More Benefits for Dog Owners

Especially in an active adult community, walking your dog helps you meet and interact with more people on a daily basis. We provide plenty of social opportunities at our resorts, but dog owners seem to feel a special kinship. Walking a dog every day provides exercise. It is a great start to the day for those who are active and is a great way to guarantee twenty life-extending minutes of walking every day.

Toowoomba Retirement Villages vs Active Lifestyle Resorts

14 January 2019 by Adam Stead

When it comes to over 50s living and retiring in Toowoomba, there are a number of options available. Depending on the stage of your retirement and how active you are, two main options to consider are retirement villages and active over 50s living. Both alternatives offer your own private home, shared facilities, social engagement and low maintenance—however there are also some key differences to be aware of.

Associated Costs & Fees

Moving into a lifestyle community rather than a retirement village offers a few key differences in the financial structure that will make a big difference to your financial position in the future.

Retirement villages offer a variety of different purchase structures and are all different—some villages are lease hold, some free hold or some are strata title. When entering a retirement village you usually pay a one off entry contribution fee, or purchase price for your home or unit and then you pay a monthly service or body corporate fee. In a retirement village, you may only be able to sell through the village management and you may be required to pay refurbishment fees, share your capital gains with the village owner and/or pay an exit or deferred management fee. This ultimately can leave you with a lot less money and fewer options to move forward.

In an over 50s lifestyle community, like Seachange Lifestyle Resorts, you purchase your own home within the resort and pay a fee to lease the land upon which it resides. This ongoing costs is referred to as a site fee and covers not only the lease of the land on which your home resides, but also the maintenance of the garden and lawn to the front of your home, all common areas and the beautiful recreational facilities at the resort. Because you are paying a lease or rental fee for the land where your home resides, you may be eligible for rent assistance on these site fees making the ongoing costs even more affordable.

One of the biggest differences between retirement villages and an over 50s resort is if you ever want to leave Seachange Toowoomba, you can sell your home at any time. You have the option of appointing the resort’s sales team to sell the home for you, or an external real estate agent, or you can always sell it yourself.  In doing so, you will not have to pay any exit fees and you receive 100% capital gain achieved on the sale of your home.

Varying Levels of Care

A retirement home, village or private aged care facility in Toowoomba may provide a higher level of on-site medical care. This is ideal for individuals and couples who require this.

An over 50’s lifestyle community like Seachange puts more of a focus on providing facilities and activities for residents who enjoy an active lifestyle. While not having on-site medical support, Seachange Toowoomba is positioned within a short 7 minute drive to the Toowoomba Base Hospital and Allied Health Centre. Both facilities offer a vast array of general and specialty services so this is a great asset to the Seachange Toowoomba community, in the event that help is ever needed.

The people you want to socialise with, level of care you require and your investment strategy will greatly influence your decision on which retirement property and community model that you choose.

At Seachange, the residents generally live healthy, active lifestyles and enjoy socialising and making the most of the 5-star facilities. If you are currently researching your retirement options, why not arrange a free tour of the Seachange Toowoomba property, to see the facilities and home layouts for yourself?

Our first residents at Seachange Toowoomba have moved in!

4 December 2018 by Terence Moyana

HAPPY RESIDENTS: Joe and Berris Robinson share with sales consultant Lorraine Walton (centre) how glad they are they made the move to Seachange Toowoomba

November has been an extremely busy month for Toowoomba’s newest over-50s lifestyle resort, Seachange Toowoomba.

The completion of the new Summer House and display homes has offered visitors the ability to experience the Seachange difference — in both the quality of design and delivery of the vision: to set a new benchmark in over 50s living in the Darling Downs Region.

Last week another major milestone was reached, with the first home owners moving into the resort.

Joe and Berris Robinson moved quickly to secure one of the first display homes, in a prime position on the corner of the resort’s wide and leafy Main Boulevard.

Joe and Berris have lived in many places all over Australia with Joe having been in the Air Force for 20 years, but have decided to settle in Toowoomba.

Toowoomba appealed to them as it offered everything they need in a city. It was also a convenient central base for them to continue travelling and enjoying their retirement.
Joe and Berris are no strangers to resort living, having lived in another two over-50s resorts outside of Toowoomba.

They knew that resort living offered an ideal setting to enjoy great facilities, the company of like-minded neighbours and the ability to ‘lock and go’ knowing that their home is secure and someone will maintain gardens and lawns in their absence.

After looking at the available options in Toowoomba, they visited Seachange and found that it offered them everything they were looking for in their forever home. The perfect size and layout, the overall masterplan of the resort and the high quality of finishes in both the home and facilities made it an easy and quick decision.

Seachange simply ticked all of their boxes and they look forward to moving in and watching their community grow around them.

Seachange Toowoomba Opens

6 November 2018 by Adam Stead

Judging by the enthusiastic response at the official opening on November 1, with the symbolic cutting of a red ribbon into the complex, the Seachange Lifestyle Resort in Toowoomba is going to be a resounding success.

In perfect weather conditions a lively group of prospective residents invited to the opening chatted excitedly as they viewed the luxurious facilities the project will offer when completed. The construction of the resort – aimed at the over 50s – was only begun on February 22 of this year but it is already obvious that Seachange has a lot to offer to those looking for this type of lifestyle. So far a handful of the 162 homes planned for the boutique community have been completed.

To those viewing, the high quality of craftsmanship was evident as the homes are to be set amongst wide leafy boulevards and carefully constructed gardens. There was immediate feeling of comfort and homeliness for those wishing to downsize and to reduce their responsibilities without having to compromise.

Seachange Toowoomba offers two separate recreational facility precincts, The Summer House and Main Clubhouse. The resort is aiming to play host to a calendar of interesting events where residents can interact as a true community. The amenities that are being provided cover a range wide and disparate enough to satisfy everyone. These feature heated indoor and outdoor pools, a gymnasium, a tennis court, a bowling green and a sauna. There will also be a meeting room, lounge, art studio, commercial kitchen, cinema, woodworking shop and, for those wanting to relax at the end of the day, a bar.

Seachange Toowoomba is the latest project undertaken by Pradella Developments, which is among the leading development companies in the property market in south-east Queensland. The company is part of the Pradella Group, which was established in 1959 and has long been renowned for its quality products.

Seachange, it’s not just about where you live, but how you live

20 September 2018 by Adam Stead

Most often, a seachange describes the move from a city in favour of a better life in a coastal community. The release of the first stage of Seachange Lifestyle Resort Toowoomba, has left many locals wondering how they can have a seachange whilst remaining in the beautiful Darling Downs region.

Pradella Property Ventures, the company currently developing the new Seachange Toowoomba Resort on Hampton Street, have taken this inherent concept of a change for the better and shaped it into a core philosophy. A true seachange is not just changing where you live, but how you live.

“You don’t need to move to a coastal location to enjoy a better lifestyle” says Director of Sales and Marketing for Seachange Alex McMahon. “It’s about enjoying an easier life, where you have the opportunity to reward yourself for a lifetime of hard work.”

Seachange Toowoomba will be the fourth Lifestyle Resort to be built by Pradella Property Ventures and like each of their existing award winning projects, it will feature a 5-star Country Club and recreational facilities that have been design to nourish the mind, body and soul.

To nourish the mind, they have incorporated a library, arts and craft studio and workshop so you can continue to develop your life skills and hobbies. To nourish the body, there will be the best sporting facilities including bowls green, tennis court, indoor and outdoor heated pools and gym so you can keep fit and fabulous. To nourish the soul, they have designed beautiful community spaces where you and your friends can come together to share and create memories. In addition to the resorts facilities residents enjoy the peace of mind that comes from living in a securely gated estate.

Stage 1 of Seachange Toowoomba is now under construction, the first homes ready to settle in October this year. The Summer house facility with swimming pool, tennis court, BBQ and entertaining facilities is also under construction and will be completed prior to the first residents moving in.

The resort’s sales office is open Monday-Saturday from 9am-5pm for those who want to learn more. Call 1800 546 655 to arrange a time to visit.
