Here Comes The Bride

26 April 2016 by Terence Moyana

Don’t we all love the soothing sound of bells, an old fashioned love story, a happy ending and the occasional wedding is always a bonus. Put all these elements together and we have a best seller, a hit movie and a very happy couple living and loving life together within the Seachange community, where they met. This story plays out like a Hollywood movie, reads like a romance novel and sounds too good to be true. But trust me this love story is five years in the making and in a matter of weeks this couple will be married before close family and friends and this is a first for both Seachange Arundel and Emerald Lakes. Love is in the air and excitement is building!

Sue and Stuart are so very eager and thrilled for their upcoming wedding at the end of the month and rightly so. They finish each other’s sentences, they smile continuously at each other and they both have ‘the spark’ – this is truly a lovely couple who are in love and owe it all to and thank Seachange Lifestyle Resorts.

Both, Sue and Stuart were long-time residents at Seachange Arundel and this is where this love story starts and flourished. Sue, with a twinkle in her eye says that Stuart is her ‘perfect match’ and that he is the one she has always been in search of. Look no further as this perfectly matched couple is home and so happy at Seachange Emerald Lakes after making the switch sixteen months ago to start and continue their life together.

Upon their engagement they decided a new location was in order and it was a simple decision to make moving from Seachange Arundel to Seachange Emerald Lakes, on the lake. They thrive in this over 50s community based lifestyle and attribute their happiness to Seachange as it was within this community that they met and well, love blossomed. Both agree that the lifestyle offered at, Seachange Arundel and Emerald Lakes is conducive to socialising, functions and simply meeting like-minded people at a stage in their life where they want to live, feel safe and be happy each day, together. Both communities of course raise their glass to the happy couple and wish them well – cheers to the newlyweds!

We Will Remember

26 April 2016 by Terence Moyana

On April 25th, ANZAC Day, every year Australians young and old come together to honour soldiers, their deeds and their wide experience of war, and this is where this story begins. This is the story of a humble, unassuming, yet distinguished and honourable man who has been decorated with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM). Clive Mitchell Taylor OAM, along with his wife, Margaret, are both very active residents within the over 50s community of Seachange Arundel, and have been for the better part of five years.

This Anzac Day (2016), Clive will be leading the 8th Battalion on the march through Brisbane, an honour that is bestowed to few and one that is not to be taken lightly; a role that Clive is very proud to carry out as this year commemorates the 50th year anniversary of the forming of this Battalion. In conjunction with leading the March, Clive is also delivering a speech at the dawn service at The Enoggera Barracks.

Clive within the Army ranks has held a variety of positions from Private to Major. Upon retirement he has been heavily involved with the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia (VVAA) in the capacities of President, Treasurer and Secretary to very briefly mention merely a few of his connections with Ex-Service Veterans. Therefore, Clive is more than capable to keep the connection strong within the thirtytwo (32) veterans that all reside within this community and whom proudly call Seachange Arundel home.

Whilst Margaret stresses that Clive is ‘stepping back’ from his various duties and positions and basic involvement with the VVAA, the community within Seachange Arundel allows him to keep his passion strong and current. Clive finds purpose, strength and friendships through this community and his involvement, that can but only be applauded. Such a proud man, Clive is quick to down play and make light of his association and experience during his enlistment, his commitment with the VVAA and currently his involvement within the Seachange Arundel community. Clearly Clive and Margaret are endeared residents of this community and they proudly call it home and after spending years on the move, Clive takes a deep breath and states…“We are home and we are so happy” at Seachange Arundel.

It is here that Clive remembers every day not just on ANZAC Day, and he will continue to remember, and it is through his lifetime of contributions to Australia through the Army ranks and the VVAA that the younger generation will not forget. Seachange Arundel is so very proud of all Clive’s contributions past, present and ongoing, to Australia and importantly this community

Turn Social Isolation into Social Inclusion at a Lifestyle Resort in Emerald Lakes

15 March 2016 by Shane Cresser

One of the reasons we believe we are the best lifestyle resort on the Gold Coast is because of how friendly every one of our residents is to each other here. We built Seachange Emerald Lakes on the principles of ‘nourish your mind, body and soul’. So far, we have been a smashing success.

Numerous studies have shown the benefits of social inclusion and interaction for those over 50s. To make a long story short, being socially engaged every day helps you have a longer, happier life. The other side of the coin is social isolation, which you want to avoid at all costs.

According to Professor Andrew Beer, Director for the Centre for Housing, Urban and Regional Planning,“social isolation is equivalent to the health effects of smoking 15 cigarettes a day or consuming more than six alcoholic drinks daily.”

Professor Beer cited research estimating that more than one out of five older Australians could be classified as “socially isolated.” This can cause effects such as depression, insomnia and a higher rate of health problems such as high blood pressure and other conditions that seem to beset seniors.

We won’t delve any deeper into the statistics. We all know them for what they are. Fortunately, you can choose right now to put yourself onto a path of having a happy, healthy life if you aren’t there already.

Social Inclusion

One of the best ways to do that, if you are over 50, is to join a growing legion of happy seniors here at Seachange Emerald Lakes. We offer so many opportunities for social interaction that you would really have to make a serious effort not to interact on a daily basis.

First of all, everyone here is a lot like you. They are over 50s who wanted an active, friendly community in which they can socialise and exercise with like-minded people. The result is a close-knit community where everyone knows each other; new people are welcomed enthusiastically and warmly.

How This Lifestyle Resort in Emerald Lakes Keeps You Healthy and Happy

9 March 2016 by Shane Cresser

Our lifestyle resort, Seachange Emerald Lakes, is built on the principles of nourish your mind, body and soul. From our 5-Star Country Club to the way we have set up our resort, we have strived to build a community in which active people over 50 can find plenty of like-minded people and develop friendships that can last the rest of their lives.

In July 2013, the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing released a document on their website called “Recommendations on physical activity for health for older Australians.” It was based on the “National Physical Activity Guidelines for Adults” by the same organisation. However, it made practical suggestions for incorporating them into your daily life.

Not a Routine, but a Healthy & Happy Lifestyle

Here is a summary of the Government’s general recommendations.

  • No matter how old you are, you should think of movement as an opportunity instead of seeing it as an inconvenience.
  • Every day, try to be active in as many different ways as possible.
  • Engage in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical intensity exercise every day if possible.
  • Add some vigorous activity into the mix a couple of times a week.

This is an oversimplification of a much larger article, but the generalisations are a good place to start for developing a lifestyle in which exercise comes naturally. That is exactly what we help you do here at Seachange Emerald Lakes.

Active Adult Living at Seachange Emerald Lakes

At Seachange Emerald Lakes, it starts with our residents. We created Seachange Emerald Lakes to be a place where active over 50s could live around like-minded people. This allows both socialisation and exercise to happen on “autopilot.” A person could get plenty of exercise just by walking their dog for two hours every day and plenty of socialisation by talking to the people they see along the way.

However, Seachange Emerald Lakes also offers a host of amenities at our 5-Star Country Club, including swimming, tennis, a gym, a steam room/sauna, a dining room, a bar, a lounge and much more.
